Useful Phrases for Dining in Spain 2020
With only two weeks left in Spain, I thought I'd share some Spanish phrases for dining in Spain, including a few that are especially relevant during Covid times.
Dining at Restaurants:
EN: A table for three please.
ES: Una mesa para tres por favor.
EN: Do you have a digital menu available?
ES: ¿Tienen la carta en formato digital?
EN: Can we sit inside? / Can I sit outside?
ES: ¿Podemos sentarnos adentro? / ¿Puedo sentarme afuera?
EN: Is there WiFi? / What’s the WiFi password?
ES: ¿Hay WiFi? / ¿Cuál es la contraseña del WiFi?
EN: Where is the restroom?
ES: ¿Dónde está el baño?
EN: Are there vegan options? / gluten-free options? / dairy-free options?
ES: ¿Tienen opciones veganas? / opciones sin gluten? / opciones sin lácteos?
EN: Do we pay here or at the front? (Most restaurants I’ve visited in Barcelona ask you to pay at the front, so instead of asking for the check, I just ask where I can pay.)
ES: ¿Se paga aquí o en la entrada?
EN: I speak English but I’d like to practice my Spanish.
ES: Hablo inglés, pero me gustaría practicar español.
On the Phone with Restaurants:
EN: Are you open for dine-in?
ES: ¿Está abierto para comer/cenar en el local?
EN: Is it ok to bring laptops? (Useful for coffee shops in particular.)
ES: ¿Se puede traer el ordenador y usarlo?
EN: Is it crowded right now? (Useful if you’re trying to keep as much distance as possible.)
ES: ¿Hay mucha gente? / ¿Está muy lleno?
EN: Until what time are you open? (Google Maps isn’t the most reliable nowadays with Covid closures and unpredictable schedules.)
ES: ¿Hasta qué hora están abiertos?
